Sancağın ilk Mrk., şimdi Şefaatlı bölgesinde kalan “Kızılkoca” nahiyesinin bir köyüdür. Bozok, sancağın son merkezidir. 1927’de adı Yozgat olmuştur.
Yozgat, ancak 1841’de Bozok sancağının merkezi oldu. Önceleri belirli bir Sancak Merkezi yoktu.
